The Oars of Noyo

The Noyo Women’s Rowing Club, “The Oars of Noyo,” accept a challenge from the men of the Lost Coast Chapter of The TSCA

WmnsRwClb17   A small crowd of family and fans of small water craft congregated at the Public Boat Ramp on Sunday September 29th for the first annual Noyo Cup. A competition born from a challenge to a race on the Noyo River from the men rowers to the women rowers. Rowing a half mile course from the boat ramp to a buoy placed mid river in front of Noyo Basin. The competitors and audience turned out under clouds threatening to rain for this first annual event. The competition was fierce as both teams dug deep and performed admirably posting times just 19 seconds apart.

The Monomoy Surf Boat was acquired from the Lady of the Lake Rowing club at Lake Merritt in Oakland, the oldest women’s rowing club in California. A lot of love and work, spearheaded by Dusty Dillon, went into restoring it. The craft can take 8 rowers and someone on the tiller.

  1. Terry, thank you so much for creating this video! I know every one of us will hold it dear in our treasure trove of memories. It was wonderful meeting you and thank you again, for taking the time and putting your talents and effort to work for something that means a great deal to us.

  2. Dear Row Peeps….

I was so excited to see your race video.
It reminded me of when I started rowing and then cox’n in 1980.
    Currently, I’m a cox’n for a team in Vallejo.
I started out rowing/cox’n for an ocean carrier that I worked for and moved on to a team in S.F.
Rowing is a wonderful sport for anyone.
I noticed the t shirt on one of the guys in your video. I believe it was from one of the original races called the S.F. Port Promenade(sp?). That is a very old shirt and I was there.
I hope your club stays together… I would love to come up and see you all race… If I don’t have a race myself.
    Please keep me posted.
    Yippeee!!
