INSUFFICIENT NUMBER OF SIGNATURES FOR BALLOT INITIATIVE
CITY OF FORT BRAGG NEWS RELEASE
Friday, July 24, 2015
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BALLOT INITIATIVE DEEMED TO HAVE
INSUFFICIENT NUMBER OF SIGNATURES
The City of Fort Bragg’s Elections Official has notified the proponents of a ballot initiative entitled “Prohibiting Social Services Organizations in the Central Business District” that their petition failed to include the signatures of “not less than 10 percent of the voters of the city” as required under California Elections Code section 9215.
The petition was filed on July 8, 2015. On July 13th, the City Council requested that the County Registrar of Voters examine the signatures on the petition to verify their validity. On July 22nd, the County Registrar of Voters completed the examination of signatures and determined that there were 312 valid signatures. There are 3,124 registered voters in the City of Fort Bragg, therefore 313 valid signatures are required to meet the “not less than 10 percent” threshold.
You failed to mention that according to the county election board the Initiative was actually a percentage of signature short, which is merely amusing. What is less amusing is that you failed to mention that the city council could have accepted the Initiative and allowed an election to take place. Instead they continued to scoff at the public and stonewall for their private agenda. By such sloppy coverage you facilitate the deception. But since you are on their payroll that is not too surprising. Perhaps it would be helpful if you posted a notice that you are advocating for the incumbency and that the material at this site is inherently deceptive and misleading. Just a suggestion .
As you see at the top, we are posting a Press Release from The City of Fort Bragg. If the other parties wish to issue Press Releases, we will also post them here. Mendocino TV has yet to take a position on this initiative. If we were pressed for an opinion I would characterize the initiative as, ‘Misguided and too late”. I see that you have which I applaud. Thanks for posting your comments here.
