Health and Wellness Fair Fun For All!
Over 300 local people joined over 45 community exhibitors at the 7th annual Mendocino Coast District Hospital Health & Wellness Festival on Saturday, October 5. Additionally, nearly 100 adults and children, many from out of the area, participated in the Noyo River Run & Walk on such a beautiful day.
This year’s festival had an eclectic variety of non profit organizations, private providers of health and nutrition services, participatory physical activities as well as free screenings, resources and department tours provided by MCDH.
From the Threshold Choir, who sing bedside to comfort people at the thresholds of life, to healthy food and drink samples, to yoga and tai chi demonstrations and a myriad of information booths there was something for everyone. It was also a child friendly occasion with face painting and chalk drawing as well as friendly dogs from the Sunshine Team Therapy Dogs and the Mendocino Coast Humane Society Adoption Van.
The event timing coincided with the launching of the new health insurance coverage implemented through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), popularly know as “Obamacare”. Mendocino Coast Clinics was there to help educate people about their insurance options and how to access assistance before the new law and coverage take effect January 1, 2014.
Once again, this festival reminded us of why the MendocinoCoast is such a healthy and happy place to live, resplendent in resources to keep us that way!
